Murphy Door was founded by Jeremy G Barker, a career firefighter and paramedic in Utah, who built a hidden theater door for his kids and discovered a market no one was serving.  Secret doors and Murphy Beds aren’t just a novelty at Murphy Door; they’re our bread and butter. 

We’ve been engineering and building hidden passageways since 2012.  With factories in Utah and Kentucky (and a new facility coming to Texas in 2026), we crank out nearly 100 door systems a day and have delivered custom doors or hardware for over 100,000 households worldwide.  That scale means we’re able to offer premium engineering, quick turnarounds and a smalltown level of care at the same time.

We operate full-scale production in two U.S. facilities and make every hinge, build each door and finish everything under one roof.  Our competitors admit they outsource large portions of their hardware as well as their wood working and rely on contract shops for other items, which means they suffer with variable quality and consistency.  Nonmanufacturer means lack of control.

A dedicated team of mechanical engineers, industrial designers and woodworking pros craft each build for strength and smooth operation.  We don’t cut corners with particle board or with misleading claims of real wood, or flimsy hinges, our patented ballbearing pivot carries a dynamic load of 1,160 lb. and a static load of 540 lb. and mounts flush, so you don’t see a bulky metal truss bolted on the outside that looks more like a contraption and repair than a custom highend hidden door. 

Lifetime warranty on the parts that matter.  

 Murphy Door’s lifetime warranty covers ALL labor, hardware and hinges for life and provides a 5year warranty on electronics. Paint and stain are covered for a year.  We stand behind the craftsmanship because we make it ourselves.  

Built-in quality control.   

Each fully assembled door is pre-hung and tested in our U.S. factories before it ships.  That means the jamb, hinge and shelf system is fitted and leveled before leaving our floor, with a fully assigned Quality Assurance manager and inspectors whose only job is to make sure your door is perfect. With Murphy Door you don’t just receive a bag of parts from a company you’ve never heard of; you don’t have to wonder if they’ll be around tomorrow. 

Customer first policies

Flexible cancellations:  

We don’t believe in trapping you into an order you can’t use. If you cancel prior to production there is no penalty. Once production has begun we charge a 25 % restocking fee. We even accept returns for store credit when the door is returned in the condition it left our facilities. 

Shipment guarantee: 

Our freight team photographs and inspects every order and replaces or repairs any shipping damage, even if the delivery was signed for. 

Professional installation available: 

Through our network of licensed contractors we offer onsite installation in select cities. That’s something most competitors cannot provide.

Why we don’t need “5axis hinges” 

Competitors tout exotic hinge systems that require constant adjustment and sometimes leave a large metal brace on the outside of the door.  Our pivot system uses heavyduty ball bearings and a patented lower pivot rated for 540 lb static load, giving smooth operation without visible hardware. The engineering of every Murphy Door relieves the need of giant steel visible contraptions and highly adjustable hinges for our products because we insure it is right before it leaves! Don’t forget our hinges are covered for life, you’re not on the hook for expensive replacements down the road. 

Responding to “penny test” and other claims 

Hidden Door Store’s marketing relies on dramatic photos and catchy tests, but those images don’t tell the full story.  Their “penny test” features a coin jammed into a gap on a Home Depot display unit for commercial store use and on unlevel floor. The store display was installed for merchandising, and the photo has been manipulated to exaggerate the gap. 

Real world tolerances  

Every fully assembled Murphy Door ships prehung, leveled and tested by our craftsmen.  When installed correctly, the visible gap across the threshold is ⅛ inch or less, for floor clearances. We verify this in our factory before shipment, so you don’t have to rely on a gimmicky coin comparison. 

No need for external bracing: To keep their doors square, some competitors bolt a large metal reinforcement bar across the outside of the door and use multiaxis hinges that must be constantly adjusted. Our patented pivot hinge is rated for heavy loads and is concealed inside the jamb, so there’s no bulky bar and no unsightly hardware.
