FAQ

Can I add a magnetic lock to my hidden door?

Yes — magnetic (electromagnetic) locks are a popular addition to hidden doors, especially for safe rooms, home offices, and wine cellars where controlled access is important. Murphy Door offers mag lock options that integrate cleanly with our door frames, maintaining the concealed aesthetic while providing a strong, reliable hold. These locks can be operated via keypad, wireless fob, fingerprint reader, or smart home automation systems. Find locking hardware options in the hardware collection or contact us to discuss a custom locking solution.

Do Murphy Doors lock?

Yes; all of our Murphy Doors can be fitted with a hidden door locking system that is sold separately. Our systems include keypads, wireless key fobs, electromagnetic locks, biometric fingerprint locks, or a classic mechanical key lock. Any option you choose offers an added layer of security for the space or valuables hidden behind your Murphy Door.

What locking options does Murphy Door provide?

Murphy Door offers mechanical key locks, electromagnetic push-button locks, fingerprint scanners, keypads, and wireless key fobs.

Should I use a magnetic lock or a deadbolt for a safe room door?

For a safe room, a multi-point mechanical deadbolt system is the more reliable primary locking mechanism because it operates without electricity and cannot be defeated by cutting power to the building. Magnetic (electromagnetic) locks are excellent as secondary access-control layers — they enable keypad or RFID entry from outside the room — but they fail open when power is lost, making them unsuitable as the sole locking mechanism in an emergency scenario. Murphy Door's safe room doors are engineered with mechanical multi-point deadbolts as the primary system, with provisions for electronic secondary locks integrated at your option. Our design team can walk you through the full access-control stack for your project.
